Summary

There are 2 major problems I encounter in developing this environment and they are creating the skybox and modeling or importing the model to unity. The way I solve the creating the skybox problem are:
  • First, I get an image and I divid it in 2
  • Then I make the image in a U shape (more U shape in top, less U shape in center)
  • After that I make the top of the image the same colour with gradient tool and also make it U shape
  • Then I uses this 2 image as front and right and mirror this 2 image and make it as back and left
  • For the top image, I uses the Top color of the front etc image and I put star in it (bigger at the side and smaller in the center) and I may have put a circle gradient in the the middle
The problem with the importing the model to unity is when I try to import it, the max importer crashes. The reason why it crushes is there is too many faces and werid stuff in the model. It is because when I model it, I put 4 mesh together to form the wall of the building and I combine these mesh to form one big mesh and I didn't delete the faces inside the mesh and didn't join the points together. To make it worst, I champfy the edge of the model which create more faces and creates a bigger headach to fix it. After I fix it, when I look at the model in unity, I see some holes in the edge of the model. This is because there is some points in the edge of the model that don't link to anything. After I fix that, it look ok.

The items I can improve on the environment if I got more time are:
  • Add some water effects and models sitting on water
  • Add a fishing building or something
  • Make the other 2 temple look more different looking
  • add some temple accessory
If this idea is made to an game one day, I am not sure if it work or not because I am not sure if it is possible in the coding part and I think people may see the game and may download it and play it for couple of days and quit playing it if there is no good or funny story behind it.

Light

I want an warm yellowish light in my environment because this is a game where there is no scary enemy or monster to fight but a community to build up and preventing too much stone man dieing from a funny death on the way.

And I want the light in the camp fire to be blue and big enough so that the light can be reflected to the building.

Tree

After I saw the tutorial on how to creating trees in unity, I realist I can create trees like bamboo tree. In my environment, I want to create an alien tree, like it got the bark and (yellow) leaf of some type of plant or tree and put it as the structure of an bamboo tree.

Building texture

I am thinking about creating blue cave paintings on the wall of the building by using composite map function in 3d max.

On the second thought, 3ds max composite map function DOES NOT work in Unity. So I don't think I can implement it using composite map.
